I could post about a lot of things for my first photo post since I left home, but this has to be the biggie for me. I'm not a huge football fan, but Drew Brees is really holding the whole City of New Orleans and maybe even the State of Louisiana in his hand. I arrived in Frankfurt on Saturday hoping to find a pub or sports bar that would have the Superbowl. I turned on my TV and voila...ESPN AMERICA! So, I managed to snuggle under the covers and watch the Superbowl from 12:30 on. I called Mom and Dad during half-time to say I arrived, rolled over and then cried from Tracey Porter's defensive interception all the way through to the end of the game and into the morning. All I could think is: "Here I am in Frankfurt watching the Saints win the Superbowl and reading about Mitch Landrieu winning the Mayor's race in the primary in the International Herald Tribune." I could tell you about my feelings, but there would be way too much boo-hooing for any of us to stand. Both are biggies for New Orleans no matter where you're at!
It doesn't get out of our systems does it? I told many of my friends that there are very few things I ever feel I need to go back for...this time I really wanted to be there for the Superbowl and to see Mitch win in the primary! Both very good things for New Orleans! I'm thrilled! I'm thrilled that I can still post too! Love, Laury

Laury, I too was in tears watching the game. Thank god for Drew Brees. we kept getting e-mails from our dear friend Sharon in NO preceding the game and after the game. She sent You Tube links and links to articles from the Picayune. I just cried every time I saw one of these videos with people clearly overjoyed and transformed. It's times like this that I can say organized sports has the power to heal and equalize a people. Those moments are few and far between but that night was clearly one of them!
BTW, glad your travels have been safe and you are able to post!
