One of the things I cherish most about this place is the silence. Then, there are the discoveries that lie within. Yesterday morning, I thought I heard an owl hooing outside. (Evelyn had told me we were visited by a huge, loud, owl while I was in Holland, so I wouldn't have been surprised to find one in the yard.) I listened a little closer and then thought, no...it must be the wood. Our wood speaks and sings to us regularly, so I listened closely but no, it wasn't the wood. I then realized that the hoo was coming from under the bed covers. I listened closely, and sure enough...we already know that our Sam sighs...now I know that she can "hoo" too. What a sweet, treasured discovery in the silence of our lives.
