I have always enjoyed birds, but would never have considered myself a "bird-watcher" until I moved to France. Graduating from watching to feeding, I found fun in the many bird parties and bird gymnastics around the Chatette when packs of tiny trapeze artists hang upside down and swing from those bird balls. Here in Stuttgart, birds don't generally make their way to the upper floors of hotels. I go to them. Although my heron is spectacular and regal in his own way, he can be aloof and self important. This little guy on the other hand, kept me company along the route of my walk one weekend. I settled onto a bench to take his picture, only to discover that he was watching me.
