Sunday's lunch in the park began pretty much as usual. I made my ham and swiss sandwich, added in some juicy seedless grapes, cookies and ice tea. This Sunday, I had Dick and Felix Francis's Silks with me for a leisurely Sunday read. My mallard mates were ready and waiting when I arrived. (I'd even put an extra slice of bread in the bag.) I settled on my favorite stone and decided to feed them first. Bad move. The male was very dignified and polite, but I can only describe his mate as pushy, greedy, impolite and impatient. Once their slice was finished, she flew up to the wall to pace and beg beside me. I moved over to the little covered bridge to finish my sandwich. They followed. I went back over to feed them the crusts, but then they wanted the cookies too! Between the greedies and the chill, I decided to pack up and find a spot in the sunshine. Not only did they follow, a whole new flock came to keep me company on my sunshiny Sunday bench. I had dive bombers coming in from all sides of the lake. Some waddled up a very steep bank to get to me, where others just waddled down the side walk to hang out and peer at me from the end of my bench. I caved. Cookies for all. Dick and Felix had to wait for a warmer quieter place and time.
Absolutely, Lona. I have to admit that just looking at the photos of that female make me giggle. I did wonder if maybe she was eating for more than one! Have a wonderful Easter-Love, Laury

Lesson to be learned: Be greedy....feed yourself first. :)
