It seemed like a good decision at the time...piano lessons or pom-poms? You can see which one I chose. After 5 years of piano lessons with a teacher who rarely allowed me to play anything but classical music, I had had enough. I still have my #49 from when I tried out for the squad at Ferguson Junior High, but I don't think I could produce a cartwheel or a split at 57 the way I did for tryouts at 13. I didn't go on to try out for the high school squad. Money was tight. Mom could make my uniform for Ferguson, but at McCluer-you had to purchase them and there was one for each season. As much fun as it can be to do these things, the best part was to look up in the stands and see my whole family sitting there just to watch me perform!
Thanks Niels-yes...it's the 27th! It was an overall fantastic day for sure. When my folks sang "Happy Birthday" to me over the phone, I told them that I'll be in St. Louis on International Overalls Day this year...some kind of a party there will be in order-we'll keep you posted! It will be fun to celebrate it there-year one in Cadrieu-year two in Holland and year three in St. Louis! Happy Sunday!

I think I was playing "Moon River" about 3 years into the 5 that I took lessons. I started buying "popular" sheet music and then learning it on my own. I'm working on 2 Josh Grobin tunes right now!

Adolescent decisions are funny...you still use your piano lessons as an adult, but that cheerleading stuff that seemed so important at the time quickly faded into just memories! I'm glad you stuck with lessons long enough to play 'Moon River'!
