Peaking through the music holder of Msr. Winkelmann while I played, Evelyn got these shots prior to my departure to the states back in October before I closed him up. I sat down and played my memorized pieces of Moon River when I got home. He beckoned this morning: "Open me up. Let's really play something together. You leave so soon. It's going to be Christmas again while you're gone!" And so, we shared a rousing (albeit a bit rusty) rendition of White Christmas. Open, happy, making music and resonating the MORE of my life, he fills my heart and my home and stirs my memories. I can almost hear Mom screaming in from the kitchen on Elizabeth: "Play Moon River, Laury." And then there's my Nannie, always, resting her loving hand on my shoulder from behind; while the rest of the people in the room just carry on in conversation, even though they were the ones who asked me to play. The mores of my life in this magic place are staggering...if you're paying attention, you might notice that I'm playing in my overalls!
I love the idea of a puppet opera-I can see it now. Maybe some day I'll make it up to Norway to see you and Bodil! Love Lots, Laury
