Ever since I bought the Chatette back in 2002, I'd sit on the porch swing on the terrace and gaze at the barn. She was so beautiful...a piece of art in and of herself. Once in a blue moon someone would come and try to get rid of her weeds and cut the grass next door, but she mostly sat alone, untended, untouched, and very much uncared for. From 2002 to 2010, I'd often sneak inside and just sit and visit with her. After eight years of patience, she came to us.
Her inside energy is incredible. The way the light enters and: grabs on to dust particles in the air and the rose quartz in the stone; blazens through holes in the wood; spotlights farm equipment; and, silhouettes special nooks and crannies is magic. She is very "tucked in" between the train tracks, the lavoir, the road up to the Château and the falaise. We need protection and preservation, not change.
From the moment people knew I was going to buy the barn, the question was: "What are you going to do with the barn?" I had no specific plans. I don't need any more space. Of course, everyone has their own ideas and I get the deluge of "You should do...!" I want to scream: "NO! I shouldn't!" But instead, I just listen. I smile. The barn and I heave a sigh of relief when they're gone. As we work together, I look around and think about what I can do to keep as much of her as she is, but protect and preserve her too. I love every hole, crack, and light show. She brings joy and gifts to my life. We're just going to keep doing what we're doing and we'll get to where we're supposed to be!
She's looking forward to meeting you too Niels! We'll have to have a wine by the wagon while you and Bodil are here! Love, Laury
