Just when everything is feeling like a drudge and a chore, and I'd rather be lounging at the Chatette with a book than on the Saturday morning bus to Figeac with must do
missions...surprises of the universe appear. I tried to prioritize: bank first to move money to my French account, Carrefour for Sam's special yellow Sheba that she loves, more coconut oil at the health food store, and back to the market to find a special 70th birthday present for Jean-Paul. Would it be possible in two hours? I'd give it my best shot.
With my most important banking mission accomplished first, I headed back passed the bus stop to the Carrefour. Just across the street from Weldom, a couple was approaching me. Imagine my surprise when the woman says to me: "Are you Laury...I read your blog?" Susan and Brian have a place in Beduer, not far from Cadrieu but way up the causse. It's surreal to meet people who read your blog. They knew everything about me, and I'm just meeting them. It was lots of fun none-the-less, and Susan took my number so we might catch up for a coffee at the Chatette. They were very considerate of my time however, they already knew I'd planned to be digging in the barn and unsocialable into next week and beyond!
Into the Carrefour-I almost screamed when I saw some new Midi-Pyrenees shopping bags for under 2 euros. I love these bags and get as many as I can as gifts for family and friends-beautiful, light, easy to mail and very reasonable! It was an easy shop, even though they didn't have Sam's food. I asked the young man in the aisle if there was any in the back, but he said no. I had a more expensive yellow one in my hand, which he assured me was just as good or better. (Sam went nuts, he was abolutely right!) At the checkout, I chose my favorite cashier. She is always wonderful, and my monnaie professeure. Is it possible to be "wonderful-er"...mais oui! I told her all about the bags and how much my family and friends in the states love them. She examined them closely and began to write and write and write, even though there was a line behind me. I thought there was a problem with bar code or something, but then she showed me: "A Kiss from France"-with the date and her initials! As some of my Brit friends would say, I was "bloody blown away"-I was touched!
Back on to missions of mixed success, it didn't really matter. I discovered the Célété on the Célé River, with booths, music, artists at work, water action sports, and boats a plenty that caught my photographer's eye. I missed my kiss-kisses at La Cazelle this morning since I had so many missions to accomplish, but instead, Figeac surprised me with her kisses everywhere! Wishing you kisses from the universe...if they're from Figeac and France aren't you the lucky one? Hey wait...that's me!
