We all have our rituals. With the heat and humidity these days, I'm out and on my bike no later than 6:15 if I can help it. Grape jelly and I pull into the drive and I immediately get to watering the garden, with all my new plants from Stew and Eric. And then there is this very tall cherry tomato plant that is only a tad taller than my new tenant, John, who brought it over along with the much more substantial garden umbrella that everyone is enjoying! We are looking lush and pretty, and feeling pretty comfortable. Happy Sunday!

A Week of Sunday-Progress
It makes no difference where I start my morning ride, not only is Esplanade Avenue a beautiful thoroughfare, but with the new bike lanes it is perfect for me. And now, there are handicapped accessible walkways and cross walks BOLDLY painted at strategic points. I am particularly pleased with the spot where Grand Route St. John and Lopez all converge at Esplanade-a dangerous intersection isn't perfect, but it is certainly safer.

A Week of Sunday-City Park Path
Sunday morning,the contrast of the texture of the wood planks, stem, and flowers caught my eye. I had to stop.
The path around Big Lake is nice early in the morning. You find a few walkers, we say "Good Morning" (if they're in the mood to speak to me, or can hear me through their headsets), I pay attention, I pass slowly, and just keep going. I get to hear my big chimes, pass my resting boats, and scope out new flowers that are blooming. Happy Friday!

A Week of Sunday-Liquid Architecture
Morning reflections on Bayou St. John always catch my eye. The boat photo above prompted my friend Michel to call it "Liquid Architecture". What a nice way to think about the beautiful homes that are reflected in the Bayou in the morning sunshine. A Week of Sunday-Bridge
With the Dalai Lama's May visit to New Orleans, prayer flags sprang up all over the city. He may be on his way to other stops, but his spirit is still moving and the prayer flags are still waving. Even our Mayor admitted...sometimes we need all the help we can get.The bridge over Bayou St. John, sporting its prayer flags from one side to the other; made a beautiful reflection in the Bayou on Sunday morning. From the bridge, you can see the tallest buildings from downtown New Orleans in the distance. I've spent many a morning passing over or standing on this bridge. The sun's coming up. The reflections are incredible. If you're really lucky, a whisp of a cool breeze will tossle your hair. You feel that moment of morning peace and reflection, and get back on your bike to ride into the rest of the day!

A Week of Sunday-Boats
From birds on Ursulines Avenue, to Bayou St. John and the colorful boats that line its shore...color and reflections are everywhere. Their brilliance sparkles and stirs the imagination of future trips and fun on the bayou soon to be had.
And of course, my memories of colorful boats on the Lot River, near St. Cirq Lapopie, were stirred as well. Happy Tuesday!

A Week of Sunday-Bird
As if a Super Moon wasn't enough already, my early Sunday morning bike ride was full of oohs and aahs. And yes, I had my camera with me. You know that time...sun just up...dappled light sneaking in...reflections on the bayou...that new fresh day that we haven't had too much opportunity to ruin yet.
RIding up Ursulines Avenue, this guy and a few of his friends went high flying from the street as I passed by. I almost kept going, but I could see that this fella had landed on a roof above. He didn't really want to let me have his photo, but I was relentless. What really made me smile was when he almost blended in with the features on the roof. Happy Monday!

Come and Get It!
Everyone is welcome for coffee and beignets at Morning Call in City Park. This guy was the new kid on the block during my last visit. I'm not sure what he is, but it looks like there may have been some breed mixing going on. One thing for sure-he's a beignet-maniac! I wonder how many pieces of beignet he could fit in that beak of his? Happy Sunday!

Mosquitoes, You Say?
Every once in a while something I see on Facebook really jumps out at me.
All my years in France, mosquitoes were never a problem for me. But here in New Orleans, my morning journaling in the garden has been rudely interrupted on more than one occasion by dozens of welts within moments. I bought the good old reliable citronella candle and returned with my journal and my cup of coffee.
But, here is something more natural to try...limes pierced with whole cloves. They are much prettier than the candles, and so far, seem to do the trick. Give it a try for your next party...the limes are a bargain, even if the whole cloves are a little bit expensive. Have fun and no more itching! Happy Saturday!

Finding Friends
Welcome Home Evelyn! Seeing this shot and remembering our morning coffees, took me down the well-worn tracks to the little train house to have a cup with you and Lucie. It wasn't till I posted this shot, that I realized Dal is joining us too! Hope you're settling in and getting home was less of an ordeal than more. I'm sure we'll talk soon. Again...Welcome Home!
