                                                                  Thinking about the Chatette this morning and missing home. I feel the cool, the darkness,  the silence, the light through the shadows, and I know that Kathy is keeping Msr. Winkelmann company in the piano room. Moon River wafts through my heart. Ah, but this is only a computer keyboard!                                                

Porch Crawl or...

...an evening at the Salle de Fete in Cadrieu? Each event is full of fun, friends, music, dancing, food, laughter, and is "in the hood".                                                                                                                                                               But, one is in New Orleans and the other is in France! There can be an international flavor to neighborhood fun! I leave you with a photo collage from last summer!

Treated to a Treat-FSJNA Porch Crawl

I couldn't resist when Holly invited me to come with her to the Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association Porch Crawl last night. I'd already fested in Armstrong Park on Thursday with Alison, offered a workshop at the  Tulane School of Social Work on Friday, 2 workshops at my private office on Saturday, right up to the minute we left for the porch crawl.

 

(Today I sort through the rubble of my life...dishes, straightening up, workshop statistics and reports, and of course...that call to Saint Louis to say Happy Father's Day to Dad.)

As you can see from the ticket above, lots of local bars and restaurants participated to benefit the purchase of swings in a neighborhood park on Esplanade near Cabrini School. What fun to walk through the neighborhoood, stop at a designated porch or garden of a beautiful home under the old oaks,where you nibble local delicacies and sip special drinks.

Holly and I started with Sangria and a procsiutto number and ended with PImm's Cups and Falafels. We ran into old friends, made new friends, and had a really good time just being together. When you see the size of those Pimm's Cups, you'll know...we almost crawled!

Happy Father's Day Dad!

And, How Big is Your Second-line Umbrella?

 

This Jazz in the Park patron arrived the other evening on his own, with this huge yellow garden umbrella. He was hard to miss from where I was sitting. It became perfectly clear as the night wore on that: he wasn't sitting; he wasn't trying to stay cool...he was dancing and swaying with the biggest second line umbrella I'd ever seen.

My French friends always say that everything is bigger in America-this biggest second line umbrella made me smile. Hey, maybe we can get a red one this size to be ready for the Red Umbrella March against AIDS in the African American next year! Happy Saturday everyone!

"Armstronging" With Old and New Friends

I'd been reading about these fascinating Thursday evenings of Jazz that my friend Alison had been posting on Facebook. We'd been saying we needed to get together ever since I got back, but last night was it...the last night of the season for Jazz in the Park and the first time I got to see Ali in too many years to count.

There's nothin' like a huge hug from an old friend to start the evening off right. Facebook is fine and has its place, but I'll take Face-to-Face and huge hugs any day.

 

Kermit was grand, the Michael Jackson impersonator had us all wanting to dance, Keith became the designated photographer for the group, I had fun remembering friends of friends and reconnecting all over again, Biscuit the dog was a star, beer tasted better to me than it had in a long time, and Louie watched over us from nearby and probably smiling a huge smile from above.

Celebrating Dali

No matter how much pieces and plans become clearer with each tiny step along the way, the fact remains that when we return to France...Sammie cat and I are going to have to get used to missing our Dali all over again. Oh, she'll be coming with us. As the time draws nearer, I'll be thinking about how we want to celebrate her life with us in Cadrieu. We were everywhere together. I always said that life in Cadrieu was "la vie en rose" for Dali and Sam! It's going to be some party!
