Having lived in my peaceful, silent rural Cadrieu for almost seven years, I discovered my life full of gardening and farming metaphors. They are just as useful in St. Louis and New Orleans as they are in Cadrieu, and sometimes hit me even harder because they do not surround me. It's that old looking from the outside and a little distance, that allows us to see more clearly.
I returned to New Orleans having no expectations of my friendships. Everything had changed. I'd been gone for almost seven years. I knew everything would be new and different. Some friendships would remain, some strengthen, some weaken, and others appear to disappear.
But this year, I have also found joy in friendship surprises. The best way to describe the phenomena is friendship seeds planted in the past. It may be thanks to social media, but these seeds that have lain dormant for as long as 20 or 30 years are breaking through the surface soil and beginning to blossom into full blown friendships. Once more, an example of the power we cannot see in the universe and a wonderful reminder of hope, faith, trust and confidence to carry us into the new year of 2014. Happy New Year to All!
Thanks Niels...Happy New Year back at you and wishes for a lovely, happy, healthy 2014 for you and Bodil. I'm in my Mission overalls as I write, and will be off shortly to get Mom so she can do some laundry and just be here with me at the house for a while. Be back when we're back in NO-Love Lots, Laury and Sammie Cat

Yes, it is so true, in about 2 weeks from now, I'm going to a 40 years anniversary at the Danish library school, where I had my first job! and the next day for a reunion of school mates in Copenhagen, not seen in the last 50 years!! since we were teenagers and now most retired ! some of the pleasures of being older than before :)
and I hope you have your overalls with you in StL to relax while you have both the pleasure and work to be done having your folks still around you! but it is important to be around them as long you can, also for yourself when they are not around any more, speaking of experience :) and now ordering a pair of lined coveralls!! in order to be outdoor despite strong winds and low temperature here in the Danish farmland ! lol Niels, Bodil is in Oslo the whole month for baby-sitting!
