There they are, through the window of Rose Nicaud sitting at "their" table on the Saturday morning after Mardi Gras in New Orleans! We'd already celebrated a number of other times together...the Bunch Club Dinner Dance the most notable.
Tomorrow afternoon, I'll be scooping the 12:30ish bus in Cadrieu, to get into Cahors in time to meet the Carll's 3:09 train that will be arriving from the Gare d'Austerlitz in Paris.
I've been friends with Russ and Angela since 1978, when Angela interviewed me for my first job in New Orleans at the Coalition for Action. Russ was President of the Board at that time. This will be their third trip to the Chatette since 2002. I'm excited to be here and be able to share it with them. Although we'd sung La Vie en Rose around Msr. Winkelmann the last time they were here with Marshall and we tried to stay warm beside the fireplace with Irish Coffees and sweets from Roux's Patisserie in Cajarc; they haven't seen the newest addtions...the barn, land and other farm equipment.
I especially love greeting my friends at the Gare de Cahors when they get off the train. It will always feel wonderfully romantic and poignant to me.
See you soon my friends!
(And, I don't think that any of us will be quite this dressed up-I know I left my sequins in New Orleans...I just don't know about Angela!)
