Celebrating Dali's life was never a question. The question for me was how to celebrate her best. She let me know.
Yesterday morning, a few friends gathered who had spent lots of time with Dali for different reasons. Both Evelyn and Jean had taken care of Dal when I worked and/or traveled. Dali used to stay by Marina's side in the piano room during the summer of 2007, when she came down to finish up some work on Monsieur Winkelmann. Jean's friends were here from home, so it was fun to have them join us too.
We had dog bones for Lucie and Rocky, Stew's long-distance transport bag, the perfect urn with 3 sweet legs, a pretty candle, and a sunflower for each of the three of us...Dali, Sam and I. I should add, Sam slept through the whole thing and on into the afternoon...a lump under the covers.
It was coffee, pastries and memories. Then, Marina went with me to "install" our girl on her spot in the cliff. We arrived, and I noticed that Marina had placed one of the deep purple buddleias on the ledge where she knew I'd planned to put Dali. It looked so pretty there, but just a little lonely. It isn't lonely anymore. Our Dali is everywhere!
Thanks, Laurie...sometimes it just all goes the way it's suppose to go in spite of me. It was a really wonderful day in so many ways-and for some reason she now feels even more everywhere for me. Love, Laury
