Prior to departure for my road trip, I teased about a similarity between Jeske Park in Ferguson and City Park in New Orleans. It's sculpture!
It's no secret that I spend a lot of time in City Park in New Orleans, but the sculpture garden is something I share regularly with Eric, Barbara and Ron. We wander. We have lunch. Or when we can...we have a huge "Iris" event. It's beautiful, free, eclectic, fun and whimsical. It's full of ancient oaks, water treatments (natural and otherwise), and is enclosed so you do have to get there during garden hours to enjoy it.
Even though Jeske Park has hours, it isn't enclosed so you really can enjoy it on a whim. A creek runs through it, and each sculpture is nestled among ancient oaks all their own. This featured sculpture: "My Own Private Birmingham" by Michal Wicker was a favorite of mine. I loved the well-worn gloves and the suggestion of presence. The sculptures had been done by a mix of sculptors from Ferguson and elsewhere. I think I caught everyone.
What a treat to find something I love just down the hill in Ferguson. I leave you with a few shots of the other sculptures. You'll have to come to Ferguson and drop by Jeske for a stroll or a bike ride through to enjoy the rest. Happy Monday!
I just had to sneak in this last favorite sculpture: "Antenna I" by Snail Scott.
Can you detect "my presence" in a couple of these shots? Have a great week, everyone!
