I've written before about how much I enjoy seeing chairs out around "I Love Ferguson" signs as I wander around throughout Ferguson. Something about it felt welcoming.
We need all the "welcoming" and positivity we can get around here.
I'd wanted to do something of "our own" at 411. Kat and I talked about it some, but then I headed off on my road trip, I returned to lots to do to get ready to sub, and other odds and ends. Sunday was the day! It was a good day to start. I had time to get it ready, ponder and prepare. Plus, I'd be around to peek out from time to time to see what was happening out there.
I have a tendency to get a little carried away at times. Our chairs around our sign, became chairs, a creatively constructed table, an iron compass, and a black iron wood carrier repurposed for books and magazines. Throw in my welcoming "dittie" hard candies, positive stickers, and our own "Good Things/Message Jar" and we were ready to go.
I came back inside, wondering how Day 1 would go. I peeked out every so often. On one of my "peeks", this is what I saw:
Today-Day 2-will be the day of lots of foot traffic, especially because a lot of kids pass by on their way to one of our grade schools-Lee Hamilton. I'll be in their number today. I'm off to subsitute teach there in the 5th grade this morning.
I'll share our results as we go here. I'll have a few Sunday surprises to share with you tomorrow. And, by then I'll know how Day 2 unfolded. Stay tuned!
