As if we needed to be reminded that John's Momie is always with us, there she was at the front door when artist Dr. Ronald S. McDowell and agent/friend Mr. Noah A. Hopkins knocked. John and Mike had commissioned "Ron" to paint a collage of them with Momie.
There was not a dry eye in the place, while Dr. McDowell explained the depth of his feelings as he painted, and the meaning of each piece of the collage.
He pointed out the sun and the moon, her history with housing, accomplishments, love of flowers, marriage equality, and her ongoing physical and spiritual beauty throughout life. Of course there was a lot of pink; but it was the very subtle halo of gold that surrounded the prominent shot of Momie on the left that grabbed my heart and soul. She couldn't have been more with us, if she had been there in the flesh.
Momie reigned in a spot of honor beside the Mahogany Oaks Bar (MOB) all night long. Each of us took turns paying her special homage, and enjoying Dr.McDowell's extraordinary work. Their arrival was a perfect start to a perfect evening. (Maybe we need to get a special pair of overalls just for Momie next year.)
I leave you with another work of Dr. McDowell's that he "gifted" to John and Mike. Treasures everywhere!
