I try very hard to be positive amidst the madness, but Monday night it seemed that lightening was striking twice in my lifetime, just not in the same place.
During Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans and our people sat in the flood waters for days with no help. My brother very aptly put it: "The Cavalry Ain't Comin'."
On Monday night, the news showed the St. Louis County Government Complex in Clayton. In all fairness, yes-there had been some demonstrations there. But that night, you saw NO demonstrations and hoards of National Guard. It appeared to me that the National Guard were in Clayton while Ferguson burned. Something was glaringly wrong, but I thought maybe they would be heading over to Ferguson shortly since it looked like there was little for them to do in Clayton.
Tuesday's news told the story, albeit only a tiny part...businesses burned to the ground, small business owners in tears, residents in shock, but there are many more stories to be told. I leave you with some questions to ponder: Why protect Clayton and not Ferguson? Why are our Ferguson elected officials and government so blatantly left out of all activities? Why are the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County the spokespersons? And as you can imagine, there are many more questions than answers.
Monday night we had 700 National Guard. Last night we had 2700. Brian Williams arrived. The helicopters are hovering again this morning.
