Sharing an old post with you today from the family cemetery visit I made with Mom to South County all up and down Gravois. She has another cemetery outing planned today with our wonderful Care Manager, Diane Smith. I hope that seeing this post will be helpful and make the visit a little easier. Huge Merci to Diane-Love to Mom.
Knowing that we were going to be doing the cemetery circuit in south St, Louis after the funeral, got me busy and the wheels turning. The seasonal flowers and fill looked pretty, but I wanted something to make it all a little more special and poignant. What else? Mardi Gras beads! I already knew that there was a huge stash in a bag upstairs, so I chose some of the pretty but simpler ones to leave with our family members who have passed on.
Our challenges were many. First, Mom didn't always remember exactly where we were going. Then, mausoleums make it difficult to do anything. Add in that Nannie and Papa and Aunt Ethel and Uncle Bill are way up at the top and we'd have needed a ladder to reach them at all. It was even difficult to get a photo, not to mention the visiting birds! Their flowers and beads ended up in a cememt planter nearby. They looked just as pretty, but just not what I had in mind.
At Gatewood Gardens, most of the rest of Mom's family can be found. Just across the street is the Catholic Cemetery where Grandma and Grandpa Bourgeois are buried. We weren't able to find them. We even had special Mardi Gras beads for them, but we'll just have to go back some other time. This repurposing Mardi Gras beads was a really nice touch! Now, I'm going to have to keep a cemetery stash!
