Getting ready for International Overalls Day at Mahogany Oaks this year was fun many times over the usual for me. On Columbus Street, I just kind of threw everything out on the table and around the house. Everyone was on their own. It worked. It was fun. It birthed and rebirthed many friendships that evening.
This go-round was so special: hanging out with my friends in advance of the party; preparing to spruce up so much space with camelias, oak branches and acorns; prettying up my walnut-covered brie smothered in honey and fig jam with Carr's Wheat Crackers; decorating the Naming the Ancient Oaks Nomination basket; having a real live bartender; and, getting to spend the whole weekend at Mahogany Oaks.
2014's celebration became MORE.
It truly was a whole weekend of celebrating overalls. Being with everyone the night of the event was grand, but it was having the weekend with John and Mike, Glenn and Bill, and Michel that made everything all the more special.
I realized that weekend
just how much I needed to be "away".
Spending
more time
with my
"birds of a feather"
meant:
early morning coffees for us very "early birds"; fabulous breakfast casseroles; sharing leftovers, solving the problems of the world on the terrace (as well as from the sofa); wandering the grounds; trying on Momie's old hats out in the shed with Mike; reliving what it meant and means to work for politicians in New Orleans with John; and, feeling the love of my guys; all carried me home in a really big way.
When Sammie Cat and I load up the rental car and head south to New Orleans between Christmas and New Years, it feels good to know that Bill and Glenn and Mike and John are always "on our way home". Huge Overalls Blessings in our lives...and, a HUGE MERCI to Mike and John for making International Overalls Weekend 2014 especially special!
yes,it is not just about the overalls as clothing item, but about much more, about making friendship, about making a good life in the middle of all kinds of strange things going on in this crazy world no matter where you are, in Ferguson, Denmark or Russia or Syria for that matter. it is our obligation as decent humans, to make good life where we are ! no more words from the professor :) love Niels, and for sure Bodil, right now to rehearsal playing the Phantom of opera :)
