Standing beside the rental car at 411 getting ready to head south on I-55 for the second time this month, I was torn. I knew I had to hit the road, but I also knew that Dad was probably going to be discharged sometime in the 11 or so hours it would take me to drive back to New Orleans.
In less than a week: we watched Dad's progress; we got Mom over to see him almost daily; we were there as he went through a second major surgery in 2 weeks; we celebrated Kat's birthday; and, Kat, Tom and I were able to have pizza together at Pirone's the night before I headed south.
Dad is back at Hidden Lake at the Care Center for now. He has to get his strength back after almost three weeks in the hospital, so he can return to Mom in their apartment at Assisted Living. With help, Mom will be able get up there to see him. This is when I'm very grateful for the continuum of care at Hidden Lake. And, another huge MERCI to Kat and Tom who continue to hold down the fort when the rest of us can't be there.
