There's so much I could write about Vann Yates. The memories are many. I could go on and on, but I've chosen my most poignant memory to share.
Many days after Hurricane Katrina ended in tears for me. He would hold me, look at me, and let me cry. One evening he said: "I just want to make you happy. What can I do to make you happy?" I looked back at him through my tears and said: "Give me my old New Orleans back."
It was an impossible order. But in many ways, Vann helped me take those fresh new steps. He was there for me when others weren't.
Today, he lives on in my heart. The universe is his.
