It isn't always easy catching up in some of the crazy busy lives we lead. Mine is less busy than most, but there's still so much swirling that I hope will be landing soon. In the midst of the busy, Barbara and I found a chance to get together. It started out as just dinner somewhere. But then, Barbara knew that the Little Dancer exhibit at the New Orleans Museum of Art was about to end and I'd probably enjoy going, Et, Voila!
This little dancer was on loan from a Virginia Museum. The information said that 21 of them had been made. I'd just seen one recently at the St. Louis Museum of Art as well. She is stunning, although apparently not so well-received upon her first unveiling.
We wandered a bit through a photography exhibit and I had to make my Impressionist Pilgrimage...Dufy, Modigliani and others that I always enjoy seeing. Museums nurture me.
We hadn't chosen a place for dinner, but ended up at a new restaurant I'd heard about on Gentilly Boulevard-Big Shirley's. As luck would have it, they are right around the corner from me at 1845 Gentilly Boulevard on the Fairgrounds side of the street. It was 4:45 when we arrived and they closed at 5, but Mike and his wife gladly seated us, welcomed us, and treated us like royalty. (It can be fun to be the only people in the place.)
Barbara and I both chose the grilled catfish that comes with a tasty cornbread pancake. I chose macaroni and cheese and green beans for my sides, while Barbara had greens and sweet potatoes. You'd have thought we'd licked the plates by the time we were finished.
What could be better...a nurturing trip to the museum, great food in the neighborhood, and quality time spent between long-time loving friends.
It's good to be back in New Orleans.
