Being an almost daily blogger, I've learned that there are people out there in the world that I've never met, but they "know" me. It can be very odd. Getting an email doesn't feel strange, but when people walk up to you on the street in Figeac and say: "Are you Laury?"; it can be a little surreal.
While Pat and "Monsieur Honey" were here recently, we covered a lot of territory in two days. When I mentioned that I'd gotten married in Armstrong Park, we stopped dead in our tracks by the tracks on St. Charles. Apparently, the "married" part was a shock to Monsieur Honey.
He said: "You've been holding out on me, Laury." He surprised me and made me smile. It was a long time ago. But, I told them the story while those seven street cars passed us by NOT going our way..ending with what I always say: "If the marriage were as nice as the wedding, I'd still be married."
With Armstrong Park on my route to Tulane, it's been a treat to catch it through the seasons. When I got married there in 1981, it was brand new and just as beautiful as it is now. I decided to stop and get some shots of the spot where I got married-as you can see, azaleas galore!
And, a wedding photo for my friends and you.
Hi Maggie-I'm wondering if you were the reader quite a while ago who asked me to enlarge the font size I was using? For some reason your name is sticking with me there! I had the dress and the hat up until Hurricane Katrina. I loved them both so much and was able to wear them for other special and political occasions here in New Orleans..usually with some pretty colorful ribbons and other accessories. I bought it in a shop in the French Quarter called Tia Maria's. She was a seamstress and sewed in all Argentine lace. Her dresses were very reasonable even for that time. It seems I paid $150 for that dress and the hat! Sorry to say that there are a lot of things that are gone and some that I have no idea where they could be-I gave almost all my clothes away to charity prior to my departure to the Chatette in 2006.Thanks for checking back in-I probably don't talk or write about the marriage because it's not a happy memory and it actually feels like it never even happened. Have a nice Thursday and a great weekend ahead-Laury

I stumbled on your blog some time ago and have loved reading about France and New Orleans, being a Southerner myself. The bit about your marriage was a surprise, but thank you for sharing. Your wedding gown was absolutely lovely and charming, as is the hat. Do you still have the dress? Thank you for all the lovely flowers photos. Nothing is blooming in the mid-country.
