This is my favorite shot of Eric's from our Thursday night on this porch. The light, the layer of flowers at the bottom, the music, and yes...it was magic! As I read some of the comments from his friends on Facebook yesterday, two smacked me in the face:
"You are living the dream."
"Ya gotta love your lives."
But then, we go on to other mundane daily chores that are part of all of our lives. I was lucky enough to be able to weed the long side alley before it got to hot...boots, overalls, bandana, cap...I was ready. That finished, I went to the backyard to prune and water. I can see my gladiolas coming up and my wildflowers are beginning to peek up from the soil.
Putting bird seed n the feeder, I heard a very familiar intro full of horns and: "As I was walking down the street one day..." I kept working, and thought someone must be playing Chicago or they're playing a recording of Chicago on the Gentilly Stage. But then: the music stopped and started; there was a drum solo; they moved on to 25 or 6 to 4; and it hit me...Chicago is playing into my backyard from the Gentilly Stage. You can't beat a Chicago warm up session in the morning while you're watering your plants and Chicago performing in the evening over an apero under the umbrella to wrap up your day.
Hmm, maybe we really are living the dream!
