One of the things I love about summers in Cadrieu, is my ability to live outside whether I'm in the Chatette or not. With all the windows open all day long, I feel like I truly live outside from within. On really hot days, I can close the shutters. Even so, the light still finds its way to blast through into the Chatette. Luckily for me, every day is NOT a hot day in the Cadrieu summers. I know if I'm hot down in the valley on the river, my friends higher in the village and up on the causse are sweltering. I can gauge just how hot it is by whether or not I'm ready to go dangle my feet in the Lot and eventually wander in.
Summers in New Orleans are quite a different thing. The high heat and almost always 100% humidity send me inside, with everything closed so tight that not an ounce of that valuable air conditioning can escape. The ceiling fans help keep the cool air moving, but I still feel like a prisoner on Columbus Street at times in the summers. Heat, Humidity and Hurricanes...three reasons I prefer to be in Cadrieu during the summers when I can.
Air Conditioning in French is: Climatisation (F)-During 2008, Christiane Duponchelle, and Josie and Patrick Larribe came to the states with me straddling April/May. We'd driven the rental car to Oak Alley Plantation. Of course, it was a very hot and humid day-perfect for mint juleps. I can still hear Christiane's sweet French accent as we parked saying: "Shadow, Laury-Shadow"-and, "Clime, Laury-Clime as soon as we got back into the car. It was quite an adventure for all of us. One that I'm very grateful we took when we did.
