One of the biggest questions I asked myself when I brought my Christmas Tree home from 411 to Columbus Street at Thanksgiving last year was: What am I going to do with it when Christmas is over? You see, I am living on only the first floor of Columbus Street and there is nary a closet to be found. The only closet I had was taken over to make the first floor bathroom bigger...another one of those things that I'd have done differently in hindsight. I didn't really want to put it in one of my limited number of corners with a plastic garbage bag over the top.
As Twelfth Night passed, I began taking off the totally Christmasy ornaments. I was left with a few themes which shouldn't surprise you: family, France, angels, shoes, and memory pieces. It became more bare quickly, but it also showcased what was left so charmingly. And, I continue to enjoy its sweetness and light in the evenings.
Yesterday, lightening struck. The Eiffel Tower looked beautiful on the top of the tree. I had a few other items that I'd received from family and friends that I was able to turn into ornaments...hole punchers, yarn, cards, ribbon, old photos, et voila!
And so, I am planning on enjoying a tree in my life throughout the year. It's fun. It makes practical sense for me in my world. It also means that by the time I am living in France more full time again-my holiday returns for a few months will have me almost ready to go with this sweet, funny, little Christmas Tree that lives in my heart and will be in my life all year long till then.
