Some mornings when I'm sitting down to write, photos appear. This morning was one of those mornings. A small file tumbled out from my 4 months during the summer of 2014, et voila. Although I'd originally planned to be heading home at the end of this month, the return has been pushed back to the end of June. To be honest, as upset as I was about the change in plans; is as good as I feel now.
I have time. I don't have to rush. I can get through the end of the semester and have time to put pieces in place beyond just these two months this summer. I'd hope to do more work around the Chatette, but I'm going to take these two months for me. That doesn't mean that there won't be a lot of work to do. I could probably spend the whole two months just cutting the grass, digging in the barn, pruning, lobbing, and getting the land in shape.
Prior to buying the barn in 2010, the yard was a big job, but manageable in anywhere from an afternoon to a day.
The barn came with slivers of land along the train tracks, a chunk beside the barn. a chunk to the right of the lavoie, and a very hilly, rocky, couple of bowling lanes behind the barn and below a beautiful cliff. These pieces add a whole 'nother day to the upkeep, but when I'm there...I get tremendous joy out of the manual labor AND the finished results.
As the pieces of this June trip come slowly into focus, I find whisps of home creeping back in...memories, desires and feelings that I've had to set aside to be able to do what I do here and move forward. It may be a simple as: a walk in the village-down the cemetery road; a gentle brush of buddleia on my hand; the feel of my lips to stone; or; that pile of pain au chocolats that sometimes sits on my counter. So much, so easy, so simple, and so much joy all in this one place that's waiting just for me!
Wouldn't you like to join me on the terrace for a Cahors or a kir? If it's coffee you prefer, we can do that too.
Sit a while. Enjoy the views. Discover this life that is full of beauty, romance, history, magic, and very simple pleasures!
wonderful photos, i'm just in from the garden to have a break in between digging out a new patio in order to enjoy the sunshine in the morning ! a lot of work with sand and soil, but good to do, and after having started on yoga, it is much easier !, yes Bodil and I have started on yoga one night per week, really good for the body and for the garden ;) love Niels and Bodil
