As I ease into another period of transition in my life, I am back to thinking about whether there is anything here on Columbus Street that I might want to have in Cadrieu with me. As you can imagine, lugging stuff on the plane (when Sam will be with me too) or sending it on ahead by mail; are both daunting propositions for different reasons. There is NOTHING I need at the Chatette.
So, what goes in to making these decisions or even considering them at all? My transition triage goes something like this, is it: meaningful; portable; breakable; something I love; something I can't live without; and, something that would be impossible to find in France?
I'd guess you can surmise from the list above, that "meaningful" trumps "valuable" for me! This girl is at the top of my list at the moment, with my twirling china ballerina running a close second. Her name is "Annie McDuffy" and she was Mom's favorite childhood doll.
She actually came back to New Orleans in the Penske Truck with Dali, Sam and I during our 2013 riding return! She'd been sitting on Mom's bedside table at 411 forever. I always loved her. Now, she's mine. I'm not sure I can leave her behind under the "tree for all seasons" this time.
I like seeing her. She is another stirrer of Mom's energy, spirit and presence. And, I may even have the perfect spot waiting just for her at the Chatette.
I can almost see her sitting there on the kitchen window ledge right now!
Besides, with her red and black-checked dress, pinafore, and straw hat; she looks like a little French country girl, even if she doesn't have a French name...yet!
Any suggestions?
Happy Saturday!
Thank you, kind sir. Am relatively free the next couple weeks. Any days good for you to catch up for a coffee or something? Love hearing from you here-Laury
