I'd made it absolutely no secret that I was on a hunt for the Clydesdales prior to the Endymion Parade on Saturday night. Although I didn't find them or get to see my boyfriend "Tim" again, I did discover something else about the wonders of Facebook and social media in general.
When I awoke Sunday morning, I found that while I was sound asleep on the sofa Saturday night; I had friends all over the world who were worrying about me. And, I had absolutely no idea what had happened.
YES...I was at the corner of N. Carrollton and Orleans, but two hours ahead of the drunk driver who hit vehicles and then plowed in to the parade crowd. YES, my friends Eric and Stew were there, but had left 10 minutes (Phew!) before the accident. That is the corner where we watch the parade, if we are going to go.
So, I immediately posted a note to Facebook letting everyone know that I was okay. I heard from almost 65 people with likes and messages. It was shocking, and heartwarming.
I've written before about the pros and cons of Facebook. We each have to find our own way to make it work for us. I would say that this was certainly one of the sweet and supportive things about the connectivity to friends and family that worked.
And, a very happpy Mardi Gras to all with some shots from the "morning after Endymion" taken just around that corner.
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
