While taking a friend over to see Stew's and Eric's place on Dupre Street yesterday, I looked up on top of a cedar armoire in the hall upstairs and saw this darling spice rack set of tiny china houses. It went something like this:
"Oh, Eric...this is so cute! It's wonderful!"
"Do you want it?"
"You don't want it?"
"If you want it, take it it's yours.!"
"Really, I love it!"
"It was Mom's and it would make her really happy for you to have it."
"Oh, yea...of course, I'll take it and I have just the place for it."
And so, Marion's spice rack came home to Columbus Street with me yesterday and rested on the kitchen counter. Later in the day, I went over to look at it more closely. I was filled with love and wonder that was the amazing friendship that developed between Marion and I later in her life through Eric and books.
They were all perfectly arranged in alphabetical order. I turned one over to see that they are "Canterbury Crossing Spice Jars" and are Lenox fine porcelain. I held the little "Sage" guy in my hand, and said: "Thank you, Marion." I could feel her smile and hear her voice. And, I knew what Eric had written to me was true: "Mom would be really happy for you to have her little village!"
That makes two of us!
