Growing up, I always wanted to have a dog. As very small children, we'd had two: Scrapper and Puff. I'm not sure what happened to Scrapper, but I do remember Mom saying that Puff had "worms".
When I was 8, Dad came home with ten silver dollars. He told me that they were for a puppy. We all walked up West Florissant to the Pet Shop in the strip mall next to the medical building, and bought our Prince.
Prince was with us for many years...through the move from Kappel to 411, all of my college years, but not quite my graduate school years. Coming home from New Orleans one school break, Mom told me that Prince had just left.
Even though I was no stranger to loss at that time, I was heartbroken. To this day, I still like to think of Prince walking off into the sunset when his time was through.
Special thanks to Kat for resurrecting these old photos and bringing Prince home to me again!
