When Lianne and I were walking Gentil and Gaston that first day along the cemetery road, she mentioned that Gentil chases birds and that for Gaston it's deer! I'm thinking, no problem-I rarely see any deer out and about.
Yesterday morning, we took a little different route on our walk still trying to stay off of the main road as much as possible. We took the donkey road to the construction road and then on home. Well, there was a rabbit. He went crazy. I was so grateful that I've been keeping him on the lead-he'd have been off and gone! It took short leading him all the way to the end of the road before he calmed down. Fortuntely, we have no rabbits at our place. I'd guess because we're so close to the road. I'm going to have to be more careful about the routes I choose!
And then Jane came for coffee. It's one of the best things about being back. We always have such fun and great conversation. I usually walk her to her car a bit down the road when she leaves. This time, I decided to leave Gaston on his own to see how he'd do.
I'd already been warned that this was an issue for him. I tried leaving a couple treats around and then set off with Jane. He was waiting for me at the front door when I returned. Everything looked pretty good and I was feeling success until I got to the living room.
There on the stone floor, Dali's urn had crashed into a bunch of pieces and some of her ashes were slipping out of the plastic bag. The lamp was also on the floor, but survived very well.
Shocked, I tried to decide just what to do. I couldn't be mad. That window is open with a screen in it and I'd guess he was trying to get outside. So, I scooped up the plastic bag and carried it to the kitchen. Sweeped up the escaped ashes and bits of pottery. I dispursed her escaped ashes out the front window to the tunnel entrance below, and felt just bit of release. She sparkled. I think she needed to be with us in a little more real and tangible way. What a reminder that she is always with us.
It took a little thought, but I came up with the next best solution for Dal...I fortified her bag and found her another home. She is now sitting in a beautiful pot that Eric and Stew bought for me in St. Cirq Lapopie on one of their visits AND their fabulous lady with a cat on her head is resting on top. Dal will be staying inside, a lot more colorful, and resting higher up! Such are our interesting days.
I remind myself, petit a petit with all this change and new life!
Happy Tuesday!
Oh, there's always news! Some days I wish there were a little less. It's never dull and boring! Love you and have a great Tuesday-Laury, Sammie Cat and Gaston
