Visualizing this place prior to the existence of the modern road and the train tracks; is an exercise I have participated in regularly since I purchased the Chatette back in 2002. That visualization led me to begin digging.
I discovered: terraces covered in soil; a tiny staircase down to the train tracks behind the Chatette; and, what looks to be stairs and other interesting structures leading up to the archway in the back of the tunnel that was stoned over at the same time the train tracks were built.
When you think about the life of this place, the train tracks and road are very new considering they were built in the late 1800's. It was quite a feat to build that road. Look at that wall. I often wonder what has been covered up underneath, as I'm discovering what has been filled in and covered over with soil at the Chatette and in the barn.
Imaginations can run wild.
Mine do.
Yesterday's walk along the river below the Chatette, fed those imaginings once more.
And, we enjoyed the river ramblings in between.
Happy Sunday!
Oh Larry, we would love that! All the diggers you can get are a good thing. I'm easing back in to digging. At the moment it's getting back to things I've "done dug" that have been covered up in my absence, that need to be "re-excavated!" That's the hazard of not being here all the time. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but as I've said before-you are always welcome-Lots of Love to you and your gang to-Hug that Peanut girl for me-Laury, Sam and Gaz
