Yesterday morning at 7:30, I heard them! It's difficult to tell where the sounds are coming from here because of the cliffs, valley and the huge Chateau fortification, but I was pretty sure that the village people were out cutting their land surrounding the barn, two sides of the lavoir and on up the hill to the road. I was thrilled!
With my own jungle to tackle this year (evidence all that green between the house and the barn), I wasn't able to keep up with those extra pieces of land since they had grown way taller than me before I arrived in May. Once it's done, I can keep up with it so I was really bummed that I couldn't get us pretty across the tracks with the equipment that I have.
Now I know, they come once a year and generally before our Cadrieu village fete which is this weekend. I may be able to get out there and manicure it a little tighter around the barn, lavoie and wagon.
This also means that I can cut out a large piece to my morning walks, since I can leave from the back of the house and walk up the hill behind the barn now that it's all cleared!
I've been having to walk out to the road to Evelyn's, hang a left and then on up the very tiny road in front of the Chateau.
It's been nice to catch Evelyn for conversation from time to time...but, we manage to do that walk or no walk, pass or no pass! I think Evelyn would agree, it would be nice to have LESS stateside stuff to commiserate about these days!
I'm off to cut more grass and continue re-escavating the lower terrace, happy be able to work towards pretty on the property again and fewer footsteps in my future!
Happy Friday!
