Most mornings, I'm whizzing through Montbrun on the main road on my bike. I may stop for a photo or two but rarely venture off the main road. I'd seen this dock out in the Lot the other morning when I was passing over and yesterday decided to stop to go down and check it out.
I wasn't exactly sure how to get there, but looked around the Mairie a bit and found the way. Clearly, a new stone walkway had been laid. It was gorgeous! I could hear water dribbling from the concrete square in the bottom right hand corner of the top photo.
The river view reflected the causse nicely.
Two paths headed out in both directions from the archway.
But the piece de resistance was hidden away and difficult to see. Heading back through the tunnel to the village one of the houses caught my eye. Then, through the trees, I saw what looked like a bread oven.
It wasn't until I walked around the other side that I realized there was a lavoir here. It is made very similarly to our Cadrieu lavoir, but is positioned differently right in the heart of the village and doesn't have a protective roof.
What a fun discovery for me! That first sound of dribbling water should have been a clue for me. I often say that it's when you get off the main road that you discover the hidden treasures along the way. This Montbrun lavoir was a treasure for sure.
Back up the hill on my bike and on my way home, I was hugely grateful that I got off the road!
Happy Friday!
