On some of my visits to Tour de Faure to see Jean-Luc and Odile, Jean-Luc and I wander over to the Boulangerie-Patisserie Roux to see Isabelle and buy the bread (and sometimes a few sweets) that we'll have for our lunch.
The bread goes in this bag above!
Isabelle takes time to chat with you. I always feel special after a visit to see her. Thursday was no different.
You see, during my 5 weeks in Tour de Faure during '98, most mornings I would head down the hill to scoop a croissant or pain au chocolat to go with my morning coffee. If I was feeling particularly homesick that morning we'd chat more, and I'd get something with apricots because they made me think of Mom.
Here we are now, almost 20 years later.
On our walk over to Isabelle's, Jean-Luc and I were talking about the years that have passed. None of us are able to do as much as we used to do. Even sweet Vanille knows when to cut her walks with Jean-Luc short since she has arthritis.
At one point I told Jean-Luc...we're just all falling apart!
As I continue to tell people who ask me: "What are you going to do when...?," I'm going to keep doing what I do until I can't do it anymore and then I'll do something different.
We all change, adjust and work around.
It's a must.
That doesn't mean it's any easier to face changes that bring loss of activities and revisions to activites that we've loved.
One of the things that hasn't changed, is watching Odile cross the back of the loaf of bread before she cuts it and serves it.
I love the sentiment and the specialness that it conveys.
I laughed when she looked at the loaf a little funny.
It was a bit oddly shaped.
I thought it made it more interesting and special.
Besides, Isabelle chose it just for us!
Happy Monday!
