I've always teased over the years about all the "C" towns in my France life in the Lot, along with all the friends who are "J" girls (Jane, Joan and Jean). Christmas added another "C" to my list of Cadrieu, Cajarc, and Cahors!
Christmas day began and ended for me in Cajarc, with Cadrieu in the middle, and Cahors waiting for me in the morning so I could catch my train to Paris.
Long before the fire, Evelyn and I had decided that we would have a simple, nibbly kind of Christmas together since I'd be getting ready to leave in the morning. At the time, we also knew that I'd be getting Sam ready to spend her two months with Evelyn. Even though Sammie Cat was no longer with us in the flesh, we continued on with our plans for simple, easy, fun and tasty.
Everything was so pretty. I'd come to enjoy foie gras on my own at Christmas in Cadrieu. Mom always made "little smokies". And, finger sandwiches always feel like a party to me...so, those were my contributions. Evelyn did the deviled eggs, had some nice toasts, made a fabulous pear/almond/chocolate tarte, and of course was in charge of the champagne (hmmm., another "C").
I stopped in at the Chatette before I went back to the apartment in Cajarc. I wanted to put Sam's grave markers down in the vernissage cave and I wanted to get my favorite sheet music out to take home with me. It might be singed and black around the edges, but they are all arrangements I know and love so they are STAYING with me.
I also have something I do whenever I leave New Orleans or Cadrieu-I kiss a corner of the house to say "a bientot, stay safe!" That done, I was walking back to Evelyn's when I noticed something small and red on the front porch. I almost wandered on by, but I stopped to look and I'm glad I did!
Come back tomorrow for more on the tiny discoveries that become huge.
Happy Wednesday!
I am sure that it will make you giggle and smile! Love to you and Bodil-Laury
