It's no secret that the shot above is absolutely my favorite shot of me and my Dad. Besides being the most charming and handsome man I know, he has always made me feel special. As I told some friends recently: Dad was the "yes" man in my life. He always encouraged me. He always pushed me to be more...the very BEST that I could be. Even now, he never ceases to amaze and surprise me.
This St. Louis trip Dad was my priority. I was grateful that I saw him every day that I was there. I was especially grateful that I was able to attend one of his trivia afternoons at Hidden Lake. It was billed as Trivia and Magaritas with Larry, but after a little revision it became Trivia, Donuts and Sodas with Larry.
His five regulars seemed to enjoy it all. I helped get everyone situated with their drinks and treats and then sat at the other end of the table from Dad. He started off with a "Who am I?" reading. He began:
"I was born in Swindon, England. When I was six months old I..." and then I knew. He'd written about me and our travels from the day I was born, lived with Mom and Dad in Syresham, and began our journey back to the states. One of the ladies knew it was me. Another one said: "That's you! I thought he was talking about a movie star!"
I was so touched. We went on to other questions about inventions and the book of Matthew in the Bible. I had huge smile on my face and tears in my eyes. Every time someone got the question correct, I clapped.
It was fun. Pretty soon, everyone else began clapping too. (Movement of any kind is a good thing.) The clapping became fun for all of us.
What a wonderful day!
Back in New Orleans now, and...
Happy Sunday!
