One of the things that strikes me regularly is that hardly a year ago, I was living here at the Chatette with only a bed, my Monsieur, a sofa, table and appliances. The monster furniture had not yet arrived, but I managed to do a good job of making do and finding my way.
The photos above and left were taken here on my first day back. Look at that beautiful stone wall. As you can imagine, I was NOT happy with the patching job done by the electrician.
It screamed, was ugly, and was not in a place that could be easily hidden.
I told him about it. No Results. I spoke to my painter about it who eventually came to apply my beautiful blue on the ceiling above for me. He didn't have any ideas either. My neighbor who placed Spy Boy Dow for me talked to me about it too, but it was Jane who had the best idea...black water color.
I began with black water color above the book shelf in the places that were easiest to reach.
That meant the wall light fixture first.
I used it as my experimental spot, and then worked my way along the wall to the corner. I'd been afraid that it would be too dark with the stone, but it clearly needed something more.
I stopped for a while and continued on with other projects.
While reorganizing storage, I found some black ink from the days when I had delusions of learning calligraphy. Fortunately, the ink survived even if the pen didn't!
I added some of the black ink to the water color water and tried again.
It was amazingly better, but still a little more ink was needed.
I tried not to panic as the black ran down the wall. Whatever that material was that they used to cover up seemed to soak up the color and that black on the stone just disappeared.
Once I had success, I hopped (ha-ha) up on the ladder and finished the nasty spot near the ceiling. For some reason none of the edges cover, but the rest is magic.
I'm so pleased. I'm sure you'll agree when you see the photo below. It's not perfect, but the improvement is shocking.
Happy Wednesday!
