Today's post has carried me back to the early days of the Chatette and our mailboxes.
Our first mailbox was a wooden box with a hinged lid on top that opened up. It was under the addition, which meant that the poste people had to get out of their cars.
Once Dali, Sam and I were full-time French girls; I knew we needed a traditional mailbox that I could install in front of the Chatette. I was quite proud of myself. That baby lasted quite a long time.
Shortly after my return home last year after the fire, those mistral like winds blew it off its log perch. I found it bouncing down the road so beaten and battered that it wouldn't open. I got a new one right away.
I'd already talked to Andre about building one of his amazing cazelle mailbox covers for me.
I'd ordered it last year and then I thought...how about a Little Free Library too?
Et, voila! Both were worth waiting for.
Yesterday's arrival and installation was quite a treat for me!
Andre brought Jacques along to help.
I snuck in an in-process picture.
When I tried for one of Andre and Jacques together when they were finished, only the artist would oblige!
These are truly works of art.
After the fire, I promised myself and the Chatette special presents. Something from New Orleans that I loved and something from here that I loved. My Roy Guste photos fit the New Orleans bill and these Andre creations are our gift from here.
I love that they are so representative of the Lot and our region. I'd always wanted one of Andre's mailboxes...now we have the LIttle Free Library too!
We are lucky to have Andre in our midst in Cadrieu.
HUGE MERCI to Andre and Jacques!
Happy Tuesday!
