Where to begin the story of my Lola? Ever since I lost my Sammie Cat in the fire of 2017, I have struggled about getting another 4-legged child. I struggled mostly because I returned to the states for often months at a time while Dad was still alive. That changed during my 2019-2020 return and then COVID-19 hit. After the fire, I did foster Ollie and Opie, and then Steve Loria and I "co-parented" Annie and Mozart until I returned to France early last August, 2020.
Once I knew I was planted, I was ready. I explored lots of options that were made close to impossible with lockdown restrictions in France.
When I saw there was a family looking to rehome a 5-year old Siamese cat on a local community web-site, I inquired.
Everything was perfect, except that we really couldn't get Lola to me till the lockdown was over on December 15. What a Christmas present she was for me!
I tease all the time that she is a much "swankier" cat than I'm used to.
Her markings are a work of art in and of themselves. She is as lovey and affectionate as was my Sammie Cat, AND loves everyone. As they say, Lola doesn't know a stranger. Any lap has her name on it! Where Sam sighed and blew, Lola sighs and sings!
Lola has all her own moves. Of course, I talk to her and she listens. We still haven't tried to conquer outside, but we shall see.
In the meantime, she has gorgeous open windows to the river and a very special pillowed window seat in the upstairs bedroom to catch the sunshine. Sunshine and warmth are the operative words.
Even more than all my others, I enjoy having her in bed with me at night and in the mornings. She may decide to curl up on top of the covers between my legs, or as the night goes on she crawls under the covers to spoon against my left-side sleeping self and rest in my arms. First, I was very touched when she began resting her very soft silky front paws on my wrist under the pillows. Imagine my surprise on the morning that she first patted my cheek with her paws a couple of times. Now, she sometimes sweetly rests her paw right there.
If it sounds like I'm "in-love" with Lola, I must confess that I am. Of course, she is the company and touch in my life during these pandemic times.
I am weary.
I miss more regular human touch and contact, but Lola has enriched my life and helped me to hover in that gap until we can all be MORE together again!
I love Lola!
Happy Tuesday!
