Last week, I was pulled back to the cliff and the stone that calls my name! I wanted to begin an "uncovering" project that reflected some of my first project here and more.
Back in the summer of 2010, this piece of land behind the barn became part of our "we," as I like to say.
In fact, that May of 2010 the barn brought us a few strange, odd, sprinkled parcels of land, that are NOT connected to each other.
It is "interesant" to say the least!
Those filled patches on the other side of the train tracks give you an idea of what I'm talking about here!
I've learned some lessons from my earlier uncovering years:
1) decide how high you want to go and start there, otherwise the soil you clean off just keeps dirtying up what you've finished below;
2) best to pull the vines up from below, because even a gentle tug on high can bring soil, leaves, branches and gravel down on your head and even inside your clothes; and,
3) do not remove any stones or pull anything too forcefully, explore first, or you get may get more than what you bargained for.
Generally, I chose how high, de-vined and de-leafed, removed the soil from each stone shelf, and then came back with a brush. When everything is finished I will hope for a strong rain...and/or wash it down.
Yesterday, I actually unearthed an area that was large enough to use as a nice sized seat-a resting spot and photo op place for me.
This is the perfect ongoing project. It is a petit a petit project. No matter how much I do, I have results that I can see and make me happy. I can work on Sundays when we can't cut grass because of the noise.
The finished product can be enjoyed in an of itself as I sit among the stones, AND...
...from the terrace, you can have views of beautiful patterns, sculptures and textures from the table all the way down to the terrace swing!
I'm counting on y'all to keep pushing me forward!
Happy Monday!
