While we have snails in New Orleans, they are nothing like the large beauties I've discovered in the Lot. Mind you, they aren't all living in homes as fancy and swanky as the one in the photo from the archives above, but I love them just the same.
When I started finding a few as I was clearing the vines last week, I scooped them up and found "safer" havens for them away from my work project.
Sitting and watching the snails is something I began to enjoy that summer of '98 when I was at Wendy's in Tour de Faure.
I watched them make snail art on terra cotta pots in the garden. Later, I enjoyed watching them make their way across the terrace in the rain here at the Chatette.
We enjoyed the rain together, with me sitting there in my overalls with no make-up and no minding any of it at all.
The snails have taught me about hanging on and letting go. They've also taught me to not give up. But, above all, they have taught me patience.
There are many Lot lessons to be learned if you stop, take the time, pay attention, and become "one with!" You might say: "One with what?"
One with everything animate and inanimate around you!
Happy Monday!
