Learning something from the Dalai Lama on Friday afternoon was at the top of my list. I'm not sure exactly what I expected from His Holiness. I discovered humanness in his holiness. What a treat!
Even though it was an afternoon of very hard work to hear anything more than every fourth or fifth word from the floor seating, I was enlightened by his laughter. He smiled. He laughed outloud. He was so tickled. He is light.
In the midst of waiting for his laughter, I heard the words prayer and action, change, and other bits and pieces that I was able to string together. After he spoke, children in New Orleans were given the opportunity to ask him a question via video. My favorite question was from a young person who asked the Dalai Lama what made him happy? His Holiness in his humanness spoke of how when he was a little boy, his mother would bring him hot baked bread. That, made him happy.
I left with a smile on my face for the simple pleasures in a life that is often way too complicated these days...enlightened in his laughter, humanness, and simply JOY!
