I'm spending a lot of time these days talking (or writing) to students about communication. How do we communicate in a way that we can be sure that our "message" is understood by our audience? Sometimes, it's about more concrete barriers...different lanugage, different culture, inability to read, and an inability to write. When you layer on the additional hardships of illness, poverty, and oppression; it is a wonder we are able to communicate at all. It is hard work. It can be difficult to form your message in a way that is sensitive to all of those items I've listed above, but as social workers...it is our job to do so. Does our guy above communicate anything to you? SOAR to Success in SOCIAL WORK with me, Laury A.
