...the Napoleon House. I'd been hoping to do a New Orleans wander and write all of my Christmas Cards abroad at special spots around the city, but the weather didn't cooperate and time was running out for mailing. The Napoleon House...what a great alternative. I packed up my cards, address books, stamps, and pens and headed on down on the bus. Many of the people I'd been writing to had been to the Napoleon House with me on their visits to New Orleans, so that worked and those were fun to write. For the rest, they've heard me talk about the Napoleon House so much, it's as if they've been there with me many times.
Cheese Board and Diet Coke ordered, I settled in to getting myself arranged and ready. But, something just didn't feel right..a cheese board with no wine. My waiter was happy to offer "something red and French" and made an excellent recommendation for a red French Pinot Noir that was incroyable! So incroyable, that I asked if they had a half bottle. He came back with a California Pinot Noir, but no...for that afternoon it had to be French!
I got to work at last and had a blast. As usual, the notes in "English" go fast, but I still labor just a bit over my written French. Sometimes, I end up saying something a little differently than I'd like, because I know another way will be more correct. It's fun. I got to exercise my "French" muscles and talk about the things we love and share: food, wine, cheese, friends, family, and of course...when I will be returning to Cadrieu. I got to tell them how good the wine was, and of course...these cheeses just don't compare to what we can get at home. When I finished, I walked over to Royal Mail and got them on their way to France and the UK. The young man beside me in line said: "Can't you just put a stamp on me and mail me along with them?" I laughed and said: "Beleive me, if I could I'd be doing it for myself and bringing you along with me!
Happy Saturday and Holidays to All!
