Although I like to drink my coffee at home, from time to time I'll meet friends at a coffee shop or take friends out for morning coffee and treats.
We have two very nice coffee shops in the neighborhood: CC's and Fairgrinds. Most people know about CC's since it's on the main drag on Esplanade. Fairgrinds is a little off the main drag on Ponce de Leon, but for those of us who live in the neighborhood it's easy. I've found myself in Fairgrinds more often these days. First, I discovered these wonderful scones...Goat Cheese/Apple/ Sage; Rosemary/Sundried Tomatoes; and many many more. Second, it's on "my" side of Esplanade. (Now, this isn't like being on "my" side of the river in the Lot, but I do find that it's sometimes nice not to have to cross Esplanade.) Third, it is a coffee shop with a purpose and a conscience. It's under new management and is owned by Wade Rathke, who is a community organizer from way back. While I sat waiting for my friend; I read this sign and my community organizing wheels began turning.
Richard and I had a nice visit. I'll be back for reasons way beyond the scones. And besides, it's really nice when your backpack matches the color of the tables.
Happy Holidays!
