Throughout the years of living in our place, I've had garden plans and schemes. They have been simple. I wanted buddleia surrounding the Chatette, land, and barn so that we would be surrounded by butterflies. And, I wanted wisteria that would eventually cover the stone wall that runs the length of the property along the train tracks in a wall of shades of purple.
I bought buddleia until I discovered that it was easy to root and grow from cuttings. I did buy some extras when I discovered I wanted different colors-from deep pink to now...white, purple and a deep neon purple.
The wisteria started with one small plant. Then, Joan gave me another that bloomed for the first time this year.
They say be careful what you wish for. I'm not complaining, now. But this summer has been rather shocking for me in the garden wishes department.
The buddleia are beautiful, lush, tall, and colorful. Butterflies, bumble bees and hummingbird mothes abound. And now...the buddleia have taken over the wall along the road across from the Chatette. I've teased that we have buddleia on testosterone...buddleia gone mad! This week, I watched the Lot road crew cut them all down to open up the road for the summer tourists. But there were a few hangers on that were on the other side of the wall.
And the wisteria, it appears to be blooming a second time, it has grown the length of the wall, and...Joan's is huge and taking over half of the yard...not just the wall. I began to think about gazebos and trellises that might be a sweet addition and hold everything up.
More than anything, I'm grateful I'm here to see it...enjoy it...and, ponder plans to keep making us MORE beautiful. It's wonderful when our wishes become way more than we could have ever dreamed of. Happy Weekend!
