If you look closely at the bottom of the photo on the left, you will see one of the main reasons I love eating at the Creperie Beaubourg...it is right beside the Stravinsky Fountain. It's color, movement, spurting water, and whimsy always make me want to do a happy dance. I could sit and watch it forever. It almost feels alive.
I didn't know it at the time, but I fell in love with the fountain long before I ever actually found it in Paris. When I was trying to get as much French in my life as I could during my spare time in New Orleans, I'd discovered that the French in Action series was aired regularly on PBS. What I had come to call "The Lips" popped up every time you were listening or pronouncing. Seeing those lips was worth struggling with my poor pronunication en fracais.
As you might imagine, the lips and other sculptures are also very photogenic. They can be the perfect photos for cards on Valentine's Day, Marriages, Wedding Anniversaries, or just to say I love you and I'm thinking about you. Even on rainy afternoons, they shine.
