After my visit to the Church of St. Pierre of Montmartre-Paris, I was ready for yet another cappuccino and pain au chocolat. I could have coffee-ed and pain au chocolat-ed my way through Paris, if given half a chance.
This very pretty, geranium- covered terrace caught my eye. It was attached to this facade that I'd passed a million times, but never went in. Today was the day.
I scooped my goodies at the counter, and headed immediately out to the terrace to enjoy them. It was just me and one other customer.
As I chose my table and put down my goodies, this is what I saw...Starbucks in my face! (I'll save my Starbucks Story for another time.) Why would anyone choose Starbucks in Montmartre, when you have so many other choices?
I overheard my terrace-mate speaking English on the phone, and in no time we were conversing about our lives in France, where we were from, the places we'd been in Europe, and life in general. As the terrace filled up, "Jospeh" moved over to the table next to me so we didn't have to talk over the other patrons. Of course, I had to ask my Starbucks question. Joseph didn't necessarily have an answer, but he did explain that they used to be opened earlier. But, now they were opening at ten. Interesting, that didn't sound like it boded too well for business. I'll choose geraniums and conversation on the terrace every time! How about you?
